Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). In the following two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. In 1981, she began covering the White House, and in 1988 was named chief congressional Correspondent. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs correspondent in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell hosted and was an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel of the 1988 presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her role in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal, budget tax reforms and arms control. Mitchell traveled together with President Ronald Reagan on numerous occasions for summits, and to discuss topics like that of the Iran Contra scandal.
